The son of the late Meritorious Artist Thanh Hoang said his father passed away around 5:00 p.m.
Director Cong Ninh was shocked when he was told the sad news because a few months ago, he met Thanh Hoang at stage 5B and was told by his colleagues that he was going to perform again because he was cured of cancer.

The late Meritorious Artist Thanh Hoang is the `father` of the script Da Co Hoai Lang – a work successfully staged on stage 5B Vo Van Tan (HCMC).

At the end of 1994, the play Da Co Hoai Lang about the lives and feelings of two old Vietnamese men in America premiered on the small stage 5B Vo Van Tan.
Over the past 20 years, Da Co Hoai Lang has had more than 1,000 performances, winning four gold medals for four actors in the 1995 National Professional Theater Festival. Many generations of artists took turns portraying the two old men in the film.
Artist Thanh Hoang was born in 1963 in Bac Lieu, in a poor family with five brothers.
