Trump has repeatedly talked about maintaining US troops in Syria to protect oil fields, but the former president’s aides have repeatedly denied the idea that the US is trying to profit from oil resources in the region.
The White House press office declined to comment on the decision or specific permits, including confirming their existence.
Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in July 2020 admitted that the Kurdish government in northeastern Syria reached an exploitation agreement with an American oil and gas company.
Bassam Tomeh, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Syria, said on March 18 that `the US and its allied Islamic terrorist groups are stealing oil` from this Middle Eastern country, saying Washington is controlling 90% of it.
`The Americans and their allies are targeting Syria’s oil resources. Their oil tanker convoys are no different from bandits,` Tomeh said.
