`First Love` trailer – nine episodes long – premieres November 24.

The film is inspired by the songs First Love and Hatsukoi by Utada Hikaru, about the love between Noguchi Yae (Mitsushima Hikari) and Harumichi Namiki (Takeru Satoh).

Yagi Rikako (left) and Kido Taisei play the two young main characters in `First Love`.

First Love’s strength comes from its poetic footage.

Gentle, heartfelt music evokes viewers’ emotions.

The plot is told in a non-linear way, interspersing many moments from when they were both teenagers, entering college until their separation.

For example, in the scene where Yae and Namiki hold a bouquet of lilacs, the film transitions to the memories of the two of them admiring that flower in high school.

Scenes shot in grasslands, snow… were all filmed at real locations.

Without exploiting emotions in an unrealistic way, the film tells close, everyday stories.

Despite many regrets and unfinished business, Yae does not let herself wallow in unhappiness but treats life with gentleness, enjoying the joy of small things.

For Namiki, after going through many things, he chose to step out of his comfort zone and not continue to deceive his own feelings.

The four main actors – Yagi Rikako and Mitsushima Hikari as Yae, Kido Taisei and Takeru Satoh as Namiki – realistically portray their characters through each stage.

20 years have passed, Namiki’s affectionate eyes looking at Yae have not changed.

Each supporting character has its own value, contributing to the overall picture.

With Urabe Outaro – Yae’s colleague, he confessed his love for her even though he knew he would be rejected.

Tsuzuru and Uta’s story evokes innocent teenage love – similar to Namiki and Yae’s past.

First Love currently receives 8.4 points on IMDb.
