Indian and Pakistani forces on November 13 used mortars and many types of weapons to attack each other in some areas along the Line of Control, the undemarcated border between the two countries.

The Pakistani army said in a statement that it responded to the `unprovoked and indiscriminate shooting` of Indian forces.

Indian officials said six civilians, three soldiers and a border guard were killed in the gun battle.

India and Pakistan both claim sovereignty over all of Kashmir, but the two countries only control part of this area.

Indian and Pakistani troops have repeatedly exchanged gunfire across the border.

`As usual, they targeted civilians without any remorse,` said Syed Shahid Qadri, an official in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.

Mukhtar Ahmad, who lives in the town of Uri in Indian-controlled Kashmir, said locals panicked when they heard loud explosions from an area near the border with Pakistan.

More than 40 civilians were killed in gun battles between Indian and Pakistani troops this year.

Disputed border areas between India, Pakistan and China.

The India-Pakistan border consists of three sections: LoC, WB and international border.

WB is located between Pakistan’s Punjab province, near the city of Sialkot, and Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Territorial disputes and activities of cross-border armed groups in the Kashmir region have caused four wars between India and Pakistan in 1947, 1965, 1971 and 1999, and caused the two countries to repeatedly clash.
