More than 40 households in the Pacific Place building (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi) said that from the beginning of June, the investor Ever Fortune Company (part of Mapletree Property Group of Singapore) began installing 3 more elevators to serve the block.

`The construction is both noisy and dusty, unhygienic and has a significant impact on the building’s landscape. Some residents have had to rent houses elsewhere to temporarily stay or avoid coming home during the hours when workers are drilling and chiseling.

Many people in the building could not stand the noise and had to rent somewhere else.

Residents worry that three additional elevators could ruin the original design, threaten safety and ruin the landscape of the building.

Pacific Place is an 18-storey complex with 179 apartments, tens of thousands of square meters of offices, commercial areas and 5 basement parking levels.

According to residents, the common area of the building is currently leased by the investor for business purposes.

`This shop often causes noise and disorder at night, disrupting our lives,` a resident was upset.

In the basement, the investor also reserved a large portion of the area for long-term lease to the Viet-Sing clinic.

Talking to VnExpress.net, the leader of Ever Fortune Company admitted that the elevator construction has caused trouble for residents, but the building has an office block so this unit has minimized the construction in the morning.

`We have responded to residents and proposed many corrective measures, such as limiting wall demolition in the evening, to limit this impact. For the construction of the elevator, we have asked for permission and have written approval.

Regarding the investor’s leasing of some areas, Ever Fortune’s leaders said they did so in accordance with the law as well as contracts with customers.

After many times of working but not reaching a common voice, residents at Pacific Place continued to petition the People’s Committee of Tran Hung Dao ward.

Regarding the common area, the ward also believes that this is a part under the investor’s management, not part of the sale contract.
