Nadia Murad Basee Taha speaks before the United Nations Security Council.

According to Reuters, Nadia Murad Basee Taha described her nightmare in a speech before the United Nations Security Council on December 17.

`Rape is a way to destroy women and girls, to ensure that these people can never return to a normal life,` Nadia said, her voice shaking as she recounted her life story.

She was living in a village in Iraq when she was kidnapped by IS militants last August.

`On the way, they humiliated us. They touched and violated us. They took us to Mosul with more than 150 other Yazidi families. In the building, there were thousands of Yazidi families and children who were traded.

I burst into tears and said ‘I’m too young, and you’re too big’.

That night, he beat me.

`I beg you, please completely eliminate IS,` Nadia said.

Nadia’s story touched the whole hall.

Nadia escaped after three months in captivity and now lives in Germany, but several of her brothers were killed by IS.

The Security Council’s first meeting on human trafficking followed a statement condemning human trafficking by IS and other groups such as Boko Haram.

The Yazidi minority is considered infidels by IS rebels.

About 5,000 Yazidi men and women were captured by the rebels last summer.

The United Nations said that IS’s actions of slaughtering, kidnapping and raping Yazidi people could be considered genocide.
