For many reasons, Vietnamese horror films often do not fully exploit the horror.

`Soul Stealer` directly explores the topic of demons.

Soul Stealer is the story of Ai, an 8-year-old girl who slipped into a river and went missing.

Coming from the same background as an overseas Vietnamese director like Charlie Nguyen or Victor Vu, Ham Tran made an impression with his first film made in Vietnam last year – Conspiracy in Stiletto Shoes.

The mindset of a film editor has supported Ham Tran a lot in the directing stage.

A scary scene in the movie.

Horror movies require sound to have a close connection with the image to create a scary effect and this movie achieved that.

Another success of Ham Tran in Soul Retrieval is the cast.

In particular, the acting of child actress Thanh My will leave a deep impression on the audience.

Child actress Thanh My plays Ai with convincing acting.

In terms of horror and technical effects, Soul Retrieval has more `quality` than previous Vietnamese films labeled `horror`.

The movie’s content is quite predictable with typical links, lines and drama in hundreds of other horror movies.

Soul Stealer opens nationwide from July 18.
